Rockstar Games

The biggest game of 2018, "Red Dead Redemption 2," may be the most detailed game I've ever played.

It's certainly the most detailed game I've played since the last project from Rockstar Games, "Grand Theft Auto 5."

The simple act of walking through mud in "Red Dead 2" becomes a sight to behold. Fighting in it — during a light rain, no less — can be downright distracting:

With that out of the way, let’s dive straight into 30 incredible details you probably didn’t know about RDR2.

Real-Time Beard

Just like in The Witchers 3, our protagonist’s beard grows in real-time. What this means is that you will need to constantly take care of your physical appearance and visit the barber shop often. We hope that you will also be able to change your hairstyle in the game.

Clothes Matter

Apparently, clothes do matter in this game. They will greatly affect your performance in the game. If you wear heavy clothing on a hot day, your stamina will decrease by some measures.

If you wear less clothing on a cold day, your damage or health might decrease. Also, clothes might melt on Arthur’s clothes in real life, provided the proper conditions are met.

Take a Bath

As you move through the game, dirt will accumulate on Arthur’s body in real time. That means that if you are barrel-rolling through a mud, be prepared to feel the consequences.

You will need to take a bath to clean yourself and get rid of that stench. If you don’t, you will notice that NPCs will run away from you because of your bad smell.

Weapons are a Drag

Apparently, you will need to care for your weapons as well. Rockstar tried to be very realistic with Red Dead Redemption 2 weapons mechanics. For example, if you reload a gun, you will reload one bullet at a time and the weapons will always be visible on your physical body, unlike most other games. If you use a heavy weapon, your character’s body will get pushed back too.

However, there’s a catch. Weapons will degrade over time if you use them too much and if you use them too darn much without repairing, they WILL get jammed. You will have to replace them. But the cool thing about realistic weapons approach is that you can shoot weapons out of the enemy’s hands if you are skilled enough. Neat, huh?

Animal Hunting

Animal hunting is a fun feature in Red Dead Redemption 2 and will feature great skinning animation. Apparently, if you shoot a certain part of an animal’s body, the wound can be seen through that certain part of the body, including the point of penetration and if it leaves the body afterward, the point of leaving or something.

Skinning will be real, the part where you begin skinning will be the part that will be skinned and though the animation will be very detailed, it won’t be long.

If you hurt an animal’s body too much, their remains won’t be as useful afterward and will sell for less. Additionally, while retrieving the animal’s remains to the town, if you don’t tread carefully, the remains will fall off your body and degrade.

Wildlife

There will be around 200 species of animals in the game, and that’s a fine thing for wildlife if you ask me. Animals will be able to be tracked using Eagle Eye and some animals will have a higher precedence and rating than the other animal.

More rewards for an animal higher up the food chain. Additionally, Wildlife behavior will change according to seasons. If you come to the same area after a certain season, the animals will exhibit different behavior.

Hats Off

Just like in Red Dead Redemption, you can shoot the enemy’s hats off. One cool thing about Red Dead Redemption 2 is that you will be able to pick them up and wear them. Isn’t that neat?

Hats don’t Stay!
Apparently, your hat does not stay in one place. If you accidentally drop your hat, you can find it on the minimap, tagged. Come back for it sometime, okay?

First-Person Perspective

This is the best feature I found in the game. If you ever wanted to play a cowboy in First person mode, you can now do so. Just switch to First Person Perspective and you will be able to play a game like any other FPS games. Such a neat feature from GTA V.

Eat Healthy

Apparently, you will need to eat to stay healthy and be at full strength. Eat too much and you will begin gaining weight. Gain too much weight and your movement will become slow, and so will your reactions. Eat healthily and stay fit.

Fast Travel

You can fast travel in Red Dead Redemption 2 using the train by buying tickets. If you decide to hitch a train without paying the fare, you will be hunted by the local police. You can go cheap by hitching a ride from one of the many strangers on their carts though. Travelers are kind-hearted sometimes.

What’s New?

Apparently, you can find out what’s new in the game using newspapers. Newspapers will be distributed throughout the game and can be bought using in-game currency. Yes, the feature was a thing on Red Dead Redemption 1 too, but it is nice to see it in Red Dead Redemption 2 too.

Catch a Break

You can catch a break from the usual run’n’gun style of life and try a more peaceful lifestyle if you want. You can watch certain shows by NPCs for money. And can demand back the money if you didn’t like the show.

Just don’t expect many to comply though. Traditionally, you can eavesdrop on NPCs and hear them talking randomly just like Assassin’s Creed 2.

Your Actions have Consequences!

Whatever you do in the game will have consequences and NPCs will remember you for that. If you kill a certain parent’s child, they will remember it for the rest of their lives and will not treat you lightly the next time you meet them.

Camp Cycle

Some camps may be available until a certain time of the day.

60-Hour Story Gameplay

The story of the game will last at least 60 hours. That’s like several games worth content combined into one single game.

The main story is nearly 2000 pages long and the game has 2200 days of motion capture. 500,000 lines of dialogue. 300,000 different animations. WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT.

NPCs are Noteworthy

Each NPC in the game has roughly 80 pages of dialogue. And they will give you side quests that you can do if you are somehow bored with the game. There might be some eccentric NPCs in the game, so be sure to check everyone out.

Biggest Map Yet

Red Dead Redemption 2 will have the biggest map yet. It will contain a fair chunk of the original game’s map like the Tall Trees, Armadillo, Flat Iron Lake and more. New locations have also been added to the map, mainly New Havonna, New Austin, West Elizabeth and so on.

DeadEye is Back!

Dead Eye is back and will be fully upgradable. However, it is expected that the way to upgrade Dead Eye might change from the previous where you had to do story missions.

Loot Everything – FAST!

You can loot enemies, but so can your friends. Loot your enemies fast if you want to get that extra money. If you don’t, your brothers in arms will loot the enemies and you will not receive your fair cut.

Standalone Experience

Even though the story is a Prequel to the original Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn’t care if you have played the previous part. The game’s story will be a standalone experience but can be enjoyed more if you have played the previous iteration.

 You are Wanted!

If you do a crime, you’ll become wanted. But if you leave no witnesses behind, no one will know that YOU did the crime. Even though a bounty hunter may arrive on the scene later onwards, they won’t know what you actually look like.

Red Dead Redemption 2: Companion App

Companion App: Red Dead Redemption 2 will allow you to pan and zoom the map, set waypoints or mark areas of interest with a tap on your screen. The app will also let you examine Arthur Morgan’s Journal with new entries and illustrations appearing as you progress. The app will also show you Arthur Morgan’s core info and stats in real-time on your device, allowing you to completely remove the in-game HUD from your television should you choose.

Additionally, the Companion provides stat tracking through Social Club, contains the full digital game manual, plus an optional digital version of the “Red Dead Redemption 2” Complete Official Guide.

Interiors of Buildings

Many of the buildings in Red Dead Redemption 2 will be viewable from inside and you can head inside them. You will find potential Easter Eggs inside. Isn’t that fun?!

Evolution is Real

As you progress through the game or even pass the time in the game, maps will evolve and the settlements will evolve or erode. If you broke a wall or something, you will see it being repaired in the following in-game weeks or so on.

Rewards for Being Loyal

Finally, if you still have GTA V installed on your Playstation 4 or your Xbox One, you will get unlock some special content. Just a small way for Rockstar to show their appreciation for your fans.

Similarly, two weapons are available for free on GTA V from Red Dead Redemption 2. Just log in to GTA Online and you’ll see new messages on your phone. Do the bounties and the weapons are yours!

Online Mode

Red Dead Redemption 2 Online Mode will be available in BETA in late November. yay. Will be full of bugs though.

And that is all for the 30 incredible facts you Probably didn’t know about Red Dead Redemption 2. We will try to update this guide as the game approaches release further and we get further information on it.
